The 165th Shiloh is a quinquennial re-enactment event dedicated to honoring those who fell at one of the most fatal battles in the entire Civil War, the Battle of Shiloh. Over 3,000 died and over 16,000 were injured during the fierce 1862 battle, making it the most fatal battle in American history up to that point. This year's theme revolves around Into the Hornet's Nest. The "Hornets' Nest" was one of the sites of fierce fighting during the battle, getting its name from Confederate soldiers who recounted the buzzing of lead bullets flying around their ears.
The land from being used for the re-enactment was provided by members of the Old Monterey Trail Committee, and it actually sits on skirmishing land that was once called Atkins' Mill during the Siege of Corinth! This year is anticipated to be one of the greatest re-enactments ever, and we hope to see you there!
